About This Text
Author: Yehuda ben Barzillai
Composed: Barcelona, Spain, c.1085 – c.1135 CE
Sefer HaItim is a code of Jewish law by Rabbi Yehuda ben Barzillai of Barcelona. Written in the 12th century, it remained in manuscript form for hundreds of years, but its content was largely preserved through frequent quotations in works of later medieval legal decisors, an indication of the esteem in which it was held. Much of the original work was lost, and the remaining extant section, on Shabbat, is incomplete. The text was prepared for publication in the early 20th century by Rabbi Yaakov Schorr and was printed with his commentary Itim LeBinah; a number of additional paragraphs of the work have since been recovered.
