Yom HaAtzmaut is Israel's Independence Day. It is usually celebrated on the fifth day of the Hebrew month of Iyyar, the date on which the Israeli provisional government signed its Declaration of Independence in 1948. The day is marked by a variety of ceremonies, celebrations, and observances, including a unique liturgy in many synagogues.
